‘ New Standard Jazz Duo ‘ was born during spring 2008 when Emanuele Passerini (tenor and soprano saxophone) and Galag Massimiliano Bruno Melloni(piano) met each other by chance and realized the great interplay they shared. The musical project means to reinterpret several most famous and interesting jazz standards, including new arrangements and radical changes to the structure and the harmony, in order to give them a “new life”.
Several different original compositions, written by pianist Galag M. Bruno Melloni, inspired in some cases by classical music, have a significant space in the album: they are rearranged and readjusted (also for four hands) specifically for this “chamber duo”, compounded by sax and piano. All pieces are pervaded by an unusual expressive vitality and spontaneity wich give a specific and original sound to the duo’s first work.
