‘ THREE ON ROOTS ‘ The trio was officially made up in 2010 but the three musicians had already been collaborating in many different occasions and with different bands. They wanted to create a tribute to the greatest american authors and this was the idea behind the album. With a minimal band, not usual in jazz discography (voice, saxophone and piano) the three musicians give birth to a personal sound, resulting come out of a natural non-philological approach, where well mixed traditional and modern language elements converge.

Vocals on III Wind (introduced by a Ruggieri’s composition worthy of Coltrane with “After The Rain”) is appreciable for giving back the sense of drama thanks to a measured usage of glissando and minimizing the more predictable vibrato. The same admirable balance in “Some Other Time” where the lyrics (maybe the best of Comden and Green) reach immediately listener’s heart. Saxophone solos come out the same poetry: you can listen at the one on Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye where the pastorale incipit has got a clever reprise at the end of the improv, otherwise the spicy solo in GetOut Of Town. This last song by Coe Porter includes one the most exciting pianistic impro of the album: It arises out of the tune elaboration and the sinuous groove of the comping without ever creating a fracture between comping and chorus. Then many small but important elements of artistic freedom which pique listener’s interest[…]” (Luca Bragalini, credits’ excerpt from Three on Roots)
