‘ Pezzi di carta ‘ During 1993 Antonio has been performing in Pubs in Pavia Area, proposing Italian Songwriter’s songs (Guccini, De Andrè, Nomadi) during that period passed away Nomadi’s historical leader Augusto D’Aolio, everyone was astonished so Antonio had the idea to give a concert to pay homage to the artist died before his time, so he got in touch with Broni Nomadi fans club and together, after the hard research for a suitable venue, they achieve the event.
The celebration was performed in the historical venue of Stradella, Il Sandalo Cinese, where during legendary 60’s the band took its first steps, indeed Carletti and Campani (Daniele Campani, Elisa Minari,Chico Falzone) were invited and they joined the concert, pathos in the crowded hall was so much that when Antonio, comped by Stefano Bertolotti at the drums and Stefano Pistore at the bass, ended the concert all four went on stage playing songs like: Canzone per un amica, Dio è morto, Auschiwitz and the well known Io vagabondo with Antonio as a vocalist.
Everything went allright and although Antonio was incredibly moved he carried it off pretty well, the audience went into ecstasies standing up and starting passionately singing. Takings, 10.000.000 £, were given to the association for the research on tumour in Milan, beacuse “Augusto per la vita” association was not still estabilished.
Nomadi joined the event also the next year but with two new singers performing a short final concert after Antonio’s show comped by: Igor Cantarini at the keyboard, Stefano Bertolotti at the drums and Stefano Pistore at the bass. Among the audience there was a free lance journalist from Pavia, who released a caustic article expressing praise for Antonio Carta’s band and being down on Nomadi he didn’t think were as much good in performing the pieces.
This article came to Beppe Carletti who was very upset for that so he decided to stop joining the event so the fund-raising live event ended.
In that occasion were born a series of tribute concerts to Nomadi which took Antonio’s band through all Northern Italy venues where he met Piero Milanesi author of Michelina and Salutami Le Stelle and also Gisberto Cortesi author of “Ricordati di Chico”, “Uno Come Noi”, “Salvador” “Il Serpente Piumato” etc. So was born the idea of a new record with some songs by two authors and some pieces by Antonio. The LP was recorded in Milan at M.G. studios, supported by Santi Isgro’s artistic production, the historic guitarist and arranger who comped Gigi Sabani (an Italian showman) during his TV sketches. Studio session-player were Paolo Bianchi at the drums, Carmelo Isgrò (present Fiorello’s bass player) at El.Bass., both of them was touring with Ron and Tozzi then, Santi Isgrò at the guitar and Igor Cantarini at keyboards and flute.
The album includes 10 songs and its title is “Pezzi Di Carta”, it starts with “Amazzonia Anno Zero”, a social criticism song against Amazon rainforest depletion and Indios’ exploitation, the second song is dedicated to greek mythologic character Hermes, in Italian named Ermete trismegisto (which means three times bigger), with a musical finale excerpted from “Nessun Dorma” in Puccini’s opera Turandot; then there are pieces like “La Bandiera”, a reflection on the loss of ideals of the pacifist movement, born in 1960 in U.S. after pictures of dead soldiers in Vietnam, “Costanzo Blues” the only song detached from the other tracks of the album, it’s a funny story of a character loosing his interest in social commitment and he has just tv which is an holder of foolish faces and programs once clever now turned into exposure of personal stories, narrated through cathode ray tube.”Lavapiatti”(dishwasher) is the story of the messy and boring life of a boy who dreams adventure and one day achieve to get what he dreamed, “Fiori Di Bosnia (Bosnia Flowers) it’s the horror of the war which stick in eyes and mind of those who live that experience. “La leggenda” narrates about an hero and his relation with Jesus Christ character, “Che Guevara” is a tribute to the great southamerican guerrilla.
“Doppio Lungo Addio” (Double Long Goodbye) by Massimo Bubola, author from Verona and F. De Andre’s collaborator, recounts the mirror of the soul, the album ends with “Ave Maria”, a traditional Sardininan song, already included in F. De Andre’s album “L’Indiano”(The Indian), it’s a memory of his roots since Antonio is from Sardinia.
